Dave: Hey, what’s up?

Dave2009 Swords: What up, Dave? So what are you doing?

Dave: Nothing much D. Swords. Just trying to write a blog post before 12AM. I got to turn it in for my TIE 542 Class.



Dave2009: Oh word? They got a dope pad here in Second Life. You should come check it out.

Dave: For real? Maybe I will. But I got to type away. Grind this blog out. I got an idea for the blog, but I can’t seem to put it all together. Wait, you’re an avatar. Maybe you can help me out. I am trying to figure out when people first started to use avatars.

Dave2009 Swords: Oh, we been around forever. People just gave us our props recently.

Dave: Oh yeah? Well, what I can remember, the first time people had Avatars was with video games. Like playing a game like Legend of Zelda or maybe when you’d play back in the day that one game, Doom. It was virtual reality. You know?


Dave2009 Swords: Nope. That’s not right. Yes, you were able to be other people, but that’s not an avatar.



Dave: It’s not?



Dave2009 Swords: No. An avatar is like playing make believe.


Dave: Make believe? Like having an imaginary friend?

Dave2009 Swords: Sort of. It is like reinventing yourself. Making yourself better. Having a fantasy. Playing out a life you can not or choose not to have in reality. It is a way to live your life without having to live it.



Dave: Whoa. I never thought of it like that. So it’s like instead of I am, I wish. I dream.

Dave2009 Swords: Exactly. So I am like Dave 2.0. Dave Reloaded. Dave Super Charged.

Dave: SWEET! So show me how you can fly again....
